"So - what exactly is the meeting house?
I never heard of a church by that name before"
To answer that, I first ask you: what is a church? As a result of several trips across America, I have come to realize that there are many good people that have become very attached to the building they visit on Sunday morning. Regardless of what may be happening inside, they attend because it's their church and their friends. That building is not a church... Biblically a church is an assembly of called out believers. "Called out" from the rest of the ungodly world and being "believers" in the Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. As we do our best to return to the Biblical way of worship, we must give up a lot of the traditions that have developed over the years. One of the errors is that a church is a building and you are to be faithful to visiting it every Sunday. The "Church" is the people; the building is the meeting place. A "church" can meet anywhere - inside, outside, or anywhere in between. Faithfulness should not be in attending a special structure that we've become fond of, it should be to the gathering together with fellow Christians to study, praise, worship and otherwise learn how to have a relationship with the Father and His Son.
Thus - the name Baptist Meeting House. We gather at our given location for meetings in which we sing hymns, hear preaching and teaching of the Word of God and fellowship with like believers. We, as a church, meet at our God given meeting house. If the Lord sees fit for us to relocate, so be it. We will do so gladly, knowing we are following God's will. We will not become attached to the meeting place, no matter how grand and full of memories it may be. And wherever we go, we can take our name with us!
Consider this: if the Word of God - Truth - is not being preached inside your meeting place, perhaps you should give thought to visiting a new meeting place.
