God is clear, if we depend upon ourselves and "doing good" to earn our way into Heaven... we are deceived.  The law, our standard for living, has been established by God; not by any man - it is His way or no way.  And that way is not easy.  As a matter of fact, it's impossible.  To make it on your own, you would have to live a perfect, sinless life. 
 
But thank God, He has given us the option to choose where we spend eternity.  We have a choice, and that choice must be His Son - Jesus Christ.  God's King James Bible provides the trail map to Salvation...  out of Hell and into an eternal home in Heaven!
 
  
For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;
Rom 3:23
"All" means all.  there is not one of us that has not sinned and falls way short of God's standard for living life.
 
 
 For the wages of sin is death;
Rom 6:23a
Because we have fallen short, and have not lived to the standard God established - there is a cost.  What we have earned, our wage... is death.
 
But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.
Rev 21:8
There are two deaths.  The death of the body and the death of the soul.  Unlike death of the body, death of the soul is a sentence for the sins you've committed) to an eternity in the Lake of fire - generally referred to as HELL.  Who is it that's headed down the trail to HELL?  All those mentioned in this verse...  You may not be a murderer, but have you ever told a lie?  To hike into eternal HELL, just keep hiking in the direction you're going.
 
 
 ...but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Rom 6:23b
Thank God there is "Salvation."   There is a gift from God - a way to be saved from the sentence we deserve.  That gift is eternal life... in Heaven!  A gift offered through Jesus Christ.  Still, there must be justice; our sins must be paid for.  So, Jesus stepped before His Father, God the Judge, and lovingly took upon Himself the punishment due you.  He was tortured and nailed to the Cross - in your place - so you would have the choice of Heaven or HELL.  Choice?!  Yes, choice.  The gift is offered, but unless you accept it, it's not yours.  It's your choice... 
 
 
 For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.
Rom 10:13
Beyond "knowing" that Jesus Christ is the Son of God and the Saviour for all mankind (even Satan knows that) you must, from your heart, accept Him as your Saviour.   You have to acknowledge that He died taking your punishment, paying your debt.  There is nothing you can do for yourself to blaze a trail into an eternal home in Heaven.  You must put your total trust and reliance (faith) in Jesus as the only way to get into Heaven.   With 100% total trust and reliance in Jesus Christ, simply ask God for this gift, and it's yours.  From the heart, pray this prayer:
 
"Dear God, I know I am a sinner and I deserve to go to HELL.  But, I am trusting your Son, Jesus Christ, as my Saviour.  Please forgive my sins and save me now."          Amen.
 
 
 
 
The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.                                          2Pe 3:9
 
The Lord is patient waiting for us to call upon Him.  He waits because it is not His will for anyone to go to HELL.  Don't wait friend.  If you die before accepting Jesus Christ as your Saviour - it's too late to step off the trail into HELL. 
 
God says nothing about "doing good," becoming a Baptist, going to church every Sunday or giving money in order to be saved.  There is nothing you must do, or can do, to get yourself into Heaven.  God's plan simply calls for you to acknowledge His Son, Jesus Christ, as your Lord and Saviour.  Place your total reliance, your complete faith in Him and He will save you from taking the trail to HELL and lead you down a new path to an eternal home in Heaven.
