The Baptist Meeting House does not hold to a list of rules and regulations as is often applied to other Baptist Organizations. With no "rules" of our own, we welcome any who will come. What we do hold to is the Word of God. The Bible is our guide for church operations and conduct. As well, it is the Word of God that we individually accept as our rule of faith and practice in daily life.
There are questions that arise however, when inquiring into the foundational beliefs of an organization; and it is those that we hope to now clarify.
We of the Baptist Meeting House are Independent and Fundamental, and of course
Baptist. "Baptists" did not originate as a part of the reformation of the Catholic Church (Protestants). Baptists have practiced their beliefs since the ministry of Jesus Christ. Although called by other names through the course of history, the Baptists have always made the Bible their guide for faith and life. The true Baptist of today does the same.
It was the Christ Jesus who established the independent New Testament Church. It is through His churches, the Gospel is to be preached across the world. This is just as depicted in the New Testament. Many meetings were held in the houses of devout men; the church being the saved men, women and children that attended - not the building they met in.
Being independent, we have no governing authority over us other than the Lord Himself. There is no body of men to dictate any part of our mission. We do not need a governing body as we have the Book that tells us exactly what we are to do. Although we fellowship with churches of like faith, we are not affiliated with, nor do we answer to any individual man, association or convention. We answer to no one but the Lord. We support cooperative efforts with churches and organizations of similar Biblical belief, however, we will not join ourselves to any entity which requires the relinquishing of authority.
As fundamental believers, we accept "the fundamentals" of the faith. We believe in the verbal inspiration of the Scriptures, the Genesis account of creation, the Virgin Birth of Christ, His sinless life, His blood atonement, His bodily resurrection, His ascension, and His second coming with a pre-millenial rapture of the Church. We reject all books and writings, claiming to be God’s Word and divinely inspired, outside the 66 books of the Old and New Testaments and believe God’s Word to be divinely preserved in the Authorized Version... the King James Bible. Without reservation, we believe every doctrine and truth in the Word of God. There is not one doctrine or Truth found within the KJB that is non-essential:
All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works. 2Timothy 3:16
We of the Baptist Meeting House, as every true New Testament Baptist should be, are missionary minded:
For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved. How then shall they call on him in whom they have not believed? and how shall they believe in him of whom they have not heard? and how shall they hear without a preacher? And how shall they preach, except they be sent? as it is written, How beautiful are the feet of them that preach the gospel of peace, and bring glad tidings of good things!... So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God." Romans 10:13-15,17
Jesus commanded that His Church was to teach all nations (Matthew 28:18-20). In Mark 16:15 He said Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature. If people are to be saved, they must know to call on the name of the Lord; to know, they must hear the Word of God. For each of us to be obedient to the Lord's command, we must each be a missionary in our daily life. Additionally, we are to do our part in supporting others that are called to other parts of America and the world.
In these last days, there is not time for contention with one another. We are all called to be the Lord's ambassadors. Individually, each of us has a responsibility to insure we are being preached the Truth; and in turn, pass it on to others. We can agree to disagree on the little things - as long as Truth prevails. It is only with Truth that souls are saved, relationships are built and the Lord is well pleased.
We've not yet arrived, we simply do our best to live by the Book and do that which is pleasing to the Lord - which means... doing things His way!
